Engaging in Continuous Professional Development in Online Education

As online education continues to evolve, staying updated with new technologies, instructional strategies, and ethical considerations is essential for educators. Throughout my coursework, I have actively engaged in professional development by refining my instructional approaches, integrating feedback, and demonstrating adaptability in online course design.

1. Adapting Instructional Design Based on Feedback

One of the key ways I have engaged in professional development is by iterating on my Kahoot activity based on peer feedback. Initially designed as a midterm review, the activity lacked sufficient background knowledge for students who were less familiar with the topic. Based on feedback, I incorporated an introductory video to provide context and a guided discussion at the end to reinforce key concepts. This revision demonstrated my ability to assess, reflect, and improve online learning experiences using digital tools, ensuring that students are adequately prepared and engaged.

In my Case Study assignment, I examined challenges related to academic integrity and technology use in online assessments. Specifically, I explored the ethical implications of AI-based proctoring tools, balancing security with fairness for students. This demonstrates my awareness of contemporary debates in online education and my ability to critically analyze how emerging technologies shape the learning experience.

My Online Module Plan reflects my ability to develop structured, adaptable course content that aligns with best practices in online education. The plan integrates asynchronous and synchronous components, ensuring flexibility for diverse learners. By incorporating multimedia, interactive activities, and clear assessment strategies, I demonstrated my understanding of effective online pedagogy while recognizing the need to continuously evolve as new tools and strategies emerge.

  Major Insights or “Aha” Moments One of the most powerful realizations was that technology is not just a delivery method—it’s a space for constructing knowledge . Whether through Kahoot, collaborative Docs, or guided slideshows, I saw how design choices can support meaningful learning experiences. The second “aha” moment was recognizing the importance of intentional cultural responsiveness —digital tools must be wielded carefully, especially when engaging with Indigenous content and learners.
